TREATY BETWEEN HM THE QUEEN AND THE CHIEFS OF BADAGRY – TREATY OF CESSION OF THE TOWN OF BADAGRY

This Agreement was for the peace and security of lives and properties of the Badagry People. It showed the freely and willingly commitment of the Chiefs of Badagry to obey the commands of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain. The Chiefs were to be given a yearly sum of Sixty Two Pounds Ten Shillings (£ 62, 10.0) each “as long as they shall live or reside peaceably and quietly in Badagry, or within the Territories of Her Majesty as good and loyal Subjects of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain”.

Can EFCC’s existence survive a legal challenge?

This is because Section 214 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has not been amended to accommodate other agencies in the fight against crime, which has social, economic, financial and political dimensions.
